More Gardens in Bath
We started our day with a walking tour of the central part of Bath, where we learned quite a bit about the history and architecture of the area. Included is the legend that Prince Bladud was banished to the fields as a swine herder when he contracted leprosy (~600 BCE). After watching his pigs wallow in the mud and emerge with silky smooth skin, he himself wallowed in the waters and experienced the magical healing powers of the local hot springs. He became king of the area and founded the town of Bath. We have not yet taken of the healing waters.
In the afternoon, we took an uphill walk from our apartment. Plenty of hill training to be done here!
We came upon more than one gorgeous garden.
This magpie may have followed us here from Idaho, though the birds here seem a tad smaller.
A local owl.
Great colors and textures.
Idyllic English cottage near where Princess Victoria dedicated the local park when she was 11 years old.
Great views as we head home for the evening.
But first to the grocery store to treat ourselves.
Is that were we get the word "bath" from? Who knew. Thank you swine. I'm just getting home from Montana and thoroughly enjoyed the healing power of the hot springs there.
ReplyDeleteP&B thought the pig story was funny. The also said about the gardens, “that place looks pretty”, meanwhile I think they are absolutely beautiful. Also thinking those cookies look pretty good too 😂
ReplyDeleteThat's a cool story. And a pretty cute little pig statue too!
ReplyDeleteThat looks gorgeous! How walkable are you finding it? -AA
ReplyDeleteVery walkable. Bath had more steep walkways than expected so our calves are getting a workout.
